How To Make Bootable Pendrive For Windows 10 / 11 | Full Guide

To install Windows through a disk, it should be bootable. Disk used to be made bootable. after that, it can install Windows on the computer. But now we can install Microsoft Windows from a Pendrive. Now we Can Install Windows or Operating systems with the help of Pendrive. We have to make a bootable Pendrive for this purpose.

A Pendrive is a storage device that can store digital files. Microsft Windows is an operating system made of digital files which can be stored on any storage device. To install Windows on the computer, we need to make the Pendrive bootable. To make the Pendrive bootable, you will need a laptop or desktop computer. Without any computer, you cannot create a bootable Pendrive. With a Pendrive, you can install Windows very quickly because there is no problem with scratches like on CDs or DVDs.

Methods to Make Bootable Pendrive

There are many methods to make a Pendrive bootable. you can make a Pendrive bootable with the help of software, DOS, or Command Prompt by following some easy steps. we will describe all the Methods here:

Make a Bootable Pendrive with Rufus Software

This tutorial will show you how to create a bootable Pendrive on Microsoft Windows using Rufus.

Requirements To Make Bootable Pendrive with Rufus

Rufus is one of many programs that let you put an “ISO image” on a USB stick. There are many other programs that do this. To make a bootable USB Pendrive with Rufus, you only need:

  • Running Computer/ Laptop
  • 8GB or more USB Pendrive, flash drive
  • Microsoft Windows XP/ WIN7/ VISTA/ WIN8/ Windows 10/ Windows 11
  • Rufus USB stick writing tool Can be downloaded from the official site.

Once you’ve got these ready, just follow these steps to make your own bootable USB:

Perform the following steps in Rufus to set up your USB device:

  1. Launch Rufus
  1. Insert your USB stick
  1. Rufus will update to set the device within the Device field
  1. If you have more than one USB storage device, choose the correct one from the device field’s drop-down menu.
  1. Boot selection should be set to disk or ISO image. Then, click Select. Rufus will open a file explorer browser window. Find the ISO image you want to put on the USB drive and choose it.

Note: If you don’t already have a copy of the ISO image for Windows 8 or 10, you can now download it through the Rufus Download option given in the tool. You can just click the drop-down arrow next to the Select button and choose Download instead of Select. When you click this, you will see a window where you can choose which version of Windows you want to get.

If you don’t want to download windows with Rufus, then you can download Windows 10 or Windows 11 From Microsoft’s official website as an ISO image file with the help of their official tool “Media Creation Tool“. It will help you to download the Windows as an ISO Image file.

You’ll usually want to set up a Standard Windows installation, and Rufus will figure out the best Partition Scheme for your device. Keep the default settings as they are. This isn’t all. You can also change these if you’d like to.

Select the Windows ISO file that you want to use.

Right next to “Boot selection,” click “SELECT.” This will let you choose the Windows 10/Windows 11 ISO file that you have already downloaded or that is already on your computer. If this is the only ISO file that is in the Downloads folder, you will only see one file on the list of files. You can go to the folder where you have kept the Windows ISO file and look for it there. (Choose the Windows.iso files that you want to use). Open the ISO file you want to use.

Before Starting To Make Bootable Pendrive with Rufus

The Volume Label will be changed to reflect the ISO that you choose. Give the Volume label a name of your own, or leave it as is. You can also leave the other settings, like File system (FAT or NTFS) and Cluster size, the way they are, and you can do that again. Now, click Start to start writing.

You may be told that Rufus needs more files to finish writing the ISO. If this box comes up, choose “Yes” to move on.

Warnings: Make Sure To Write Them Down.

You will then be told that Rufus has found that the Windows ISO is an ISOHybrid file. So the same image file can be used to make a DVD and a USB stick without having to change it. Keep Write in ISO Image mode and then click OK to move on.

Rufus will also tell you that all of the data on your USB device is about to be wiped out, so be careful. This is a good time to make sure you’ve chosen the right device before you click OK when you’re sure you have.

Final Step To Make Bootable Flash Drive with Rufus

A progress bar in Rufus will show you how long it will take to write the ISO to your USB stick. As long as you have a modern computer, this should take about 10 minutes. In the lower right corner of the Rufus window, you can see how long it has been since the start of the game.

When Rufus is done writing the USB drive, the Status bar will be green and the word READY will be in the middle. Then, click CLOSE to finish the writing process.

Congratulations! On a USB stick, you now have Windows. It is bootable, and you can use it right away.

To use it, you need to put the stick into the computer or laptop you want to use and restart it. During startup, it should be able to see the installation media and start-up. You may need to hold down a specific key (it may be different depending on your laptop or computer, so USE F2 or Delete key) to bring up the boot menu and choose to start up from USB.

Make a Bootable Pendrive with CMD or Command Prompt

To create a bootable Pendrive with Command Prompt, You have to follow these steps:

  1. Insert a USB flash drive or Pendrive into a running Laptop/computer which has installed windows or DOS.
  1. Go to Search in Taskbar and Type RUN (Run app) or CMD (Command Prompt) and click Enter as an administrator.
  1. Type diskpart, Enter
  1. In the new command line windows that open, type list disk, and then click Enter. This will show you the USB flash drive number or drive letter. It shows all of the disks on your computer when you use the list disk command. The drive number or drive letter of the USB flash drive should be written down.
  1. At the command prompt, type select disk <X>, where X is the drive number or drive letter of the USB flash drive, and then click Enter. ( 99.99% Pendrive is disk 1)
  1. Type clean, and click Enter. This command will delete all data from the connected Pendrive or USB flash drive. It is the command to clean the flash drive
  1. Type create partition primary and then click Enter to create a new primary partition on the USB flash drive. It will make Pendrive a Partition.
  1. Type select partition 1, and then click Enter to select the partition that you just created, It is Pendrive.
  1. To format the particular selected partition, Type format fs=ntfs quick, and then click Enter. This command will format the Pendrive to make it fresh

Note: If your server platform supports UEFI Mode, you should format the USB flash drive as FAT32 rather than as NTFS. To format the partition as FAT32, type format fs=fat32 quick, and then click Enter.

  1. Type active, and then click Enter.
  1. Type exit, and then click Enter.

After Exit from Command Prompt, Go to the folder where you have saved the windows files in the extracted folder. Copy all the files from Extracted Folder and paste them into fresh bootable Pendrive.

If You have not extracted files, Go to the folder where you have downloaded the Windows 10 or 11 ISO file. Right Click on the windows ISO file and choose extract all or as a folder with the same name.

after extracting the files, copy all the files and folders from the extracted folder and paste them into the bootable Pendrive to install fresh windows.
